Order using your phone ……..

………. then get served by a robot?

Anyroadup, Wednesday night, about 8 and we were picking up our son at Reus airport at 10, we spotted a nice looking Chinese restaurant that had been recommended. It’s called “Asia” and it was packed. We’ll, we decided to try it.
Went in and was shown to a table straight away.
Great, it looks really nice in here!
We asked the Chino for the menu, “ah,” he says, “you download our app, then swipe your phone over your table’s QR Code. You then order off the menu and you are served by one of our robotic waiters”. And, you know what? He didn’t laugh once as he explained this.
I stood up and walked off, followed closely by Mrs Tonkington - Smythe.
And , on our way to the door, we saw two of their “robotic waiters”, stood at the side of tables with diners helping theirselves to food off rotating trays!

Whatever will they think of next?

We went to “Vienna” across the road and had a nice Piti Piti chicken salad and chips with a big cup of Amstel, €7.75 each!

I have used two parking apps, but as regards using an hotel booking app, about this time last year I went to Welsh Wales for a few days, and stopped in a Travelodge, and then decided that I didn't want to go home, so I logged in to my Travelodge account, and did a search and it gave me the price of a hotel somewhere else, but when it gave me the price it was something like £94.99 a night, and that is dear for a Travelodge, because they are not exactly upmarket hotels are they, they are one star hotels, if yoo are lucky, but they are cheep.

So I logged out, cleared me cookies, and this was on me laptop in the Travelodge, and I then switched off the hotel wi-fi, and logged on to the internet using 5G and then did the same search as a prospective customer, and the same room, was £34.99 a night and so I just booked it online without logging into me Travelodge account, and £34.99 a night is what I paid for it, and I have never logged into that Travelodge account since, and neither will I bother with a Travelodge app, if there is one.

Rip Off Britain.

Dont worry Tom.
You will be dead soon and then non of this modern tech will be a problem to you.

Leave it all to the younger ones who can cope with it and don't feel the need to make glib comments about things they cant deal with

You would rather pay 94.99 than 34.99 for the exact same thing. Didn't think it would need explaining, but you live and learn!

Is the little anecdote from TTS above an exception or a rule?

Lets put it another way

If TTS goes back to the Travelodge in Wales and does the same thing again will the result be.....

a) The same?
b) Different?
c) Dont know?

(if your answer is A or B please show all working out)

I must be a luddite I don't use any apps on my phone to order anything. On the very rare occasions we use Mcdonalds/ KFC I go to the counter to order walking straight past the touch screen menus.

I am still in almost disbelief what happened when I tried to book that hotel room that night, and I was using the standard Travelodge website booking page, and I was actually at the Travelodge in Rhyl, and it was as though the website knew that I was in the Travelodge, I was on the hotel wi-fi, but is that possible, and did that have a bearing on that booking, if yoo book a Travelodge room whilst resident in a Travelodge hotel, you get charged an extortionate amount ?

It is the same as car insurance, you don't get a loyalty bonus for using their services, you get a loyalty penalty, they push up the price hoping that you won't notice.

retep1949: “They have robotic waiters at The Chinese Buffet in Wigan.”

I’ve just looked on the business’s Facebook page & here one is …

I’m intrigued to see them in action. Can customers tip the robotic staff or are they quite stable?
